Material Agency
The conventional notion of the agent and environment in computer science is identified by Manuel Delanda through the proposal of a multi-agent system that is approximated by the flexible surface of the environment but should be understood as an under-control action. In this project, the experiment was conducted in the robot lab through interaction between a block of wax and the heat gun which is manipulated by the robot through scripting. The wax was treated by different scripts which is representing automated decisions. As a material that is embedded with non-linear behavior, through the heat-gun melting process wax creates a dynamic form, becomes new data and feedback through scanning, sends the signal to the robot, and starts and new loop. The result exhibits a collage of wax behavior with all the elements as scripts, multiple loops, and several times melting. Two initial behaviors recognize the corner conditions of the flat side of the cube and build a tool path melting away the wax cube. As the cube gets more melted it is becoming harder to distinguish a corner and a flat.
